Founded in 2000, Trupanion is a Seattle-based company that provides allinclusive medical insurance policies for pet owners. A challenge for insurance companies is the need to quickly process claims to determine whether a claim should be paid automatically. In the comparatively small world of medical insurance for cats and dogs, however, only about 1% of pet owners hold insurance policies. Most veterinarians expect pet owners to cover the full bill for their pets’ treatment, making the insurance claims process a manual and time-consuming effort.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has increasingly taken more of an activist role in the scrutiny of employee handbook. It’s important that employers take note of the NLRB’s position on certain work rules that may affect an employee’s right to engage in protected activity, as well as an employer’s role in managing its workforce. When updating your handbook it's important to keep in mind that what is not included is almost as important as what is included. Use this whitepaper to refresh yourself on seven essential dos and don'ts of employee handbooks such as: • Topics to include in your handbook • Common risks to avoid • Provisions to consider • Best practice around updating and amending policies Plus, get tips on how to approach your handbook as a multistate employer. {Download now}

Good analysis and benchmarking of hotline data helps organisations answer crucial questions about their ethics and compliance programme, including: Does our culture support employees who raise concerns? Are our communications with employees reaching the intended audiences and having the desired effect? Are our investigations thorough and effective? Do we need more training? Do we need to review or update our policies? Do employees know about our reporting channels? Comparing internal data year over year to help answer these questions is important. But getting a broader perspective on how your performance matches up to industry norms is critical. This year’s analysis of our EMEA & APAC data from nearly 14,000 ethics and compliance hotline reports revealed key data points that compliance professionals can use to benchmark and assess their programme’s performance, and move toward predictive risk mitigation.

Business users are a key part of a company\'s security, and even the most conscientious employees can introduce serious breaches of security policy. IT can do everything in its power to secure the company\'s confidential documents--provide first-class security infrastructure, develop reasonable security policies and engage in extensive communication and training--yet still people fail to comply. The solution is to provide security that helps people do their jobs more efficiently, thereby inducing users to follow best security practices without even knowing it.

If your company stores or processes credit card information, you must be able to demonstrate compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards (DSS). These standards include requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, design, and other critical protective measures. They also include one very prescriptive requirement:  Section 6.6 mandates that organizations secure all Web applications by conducting a code review or installing an application layer firewall. Companies have had a very difficult time passing the other parts of Section 6 and they have experienced a rising number of data breaches. Unless companies take 6.6 seriously, PCI compliance failure rates, and data breaches, will continue to grow.  Read this whitepaper to gain an overview of best practices to pass Section 6.6 and an understanding of the technology available to you.
