Many security-minded organizations utilize code signing to provide an additional layer of security and authenticity for their software and files. Code signing is carried out using a type of digital certificate known as a code-signing certificate. The process of code signing validates the authenticity of legitimate software by confirming that an application is from the organization who signed it. While code-signing certificates can offer more security, they can also live an unintended secret life providing cover for attack groups, such as the Suckfly APT group. In late 2015, Symantec identified suspicious activity involving a hacking tool used in a malicious way against one of our customers. Normally, this is considered a low-level alert, however, the hacktool had an unusual characteristic not typically seen with this type of file; it was signed with a valid code-signing certificate. Download this whitepaper to find out more about how you can protect your business from such threats.

"In a recent global survey conducted on behalf of Google Cloud in association with MIT SMR Custom Studio, respondents were asked: over the last two years, how has your overall confidence in the security of cloud applications and infrastructure changed? The response was encouraging. 74% of respondents have become more confident in cloud security. The age of unthinking fears about cloud security is over. Not only is cloud adoption rising steadily across geographies, industries and job functions, but confidence in cloud security is rising as well — to the point where increased security is a major reason enterprises opt for cloud solutions. Download this report and find out more."

GDPR compliance can be achieved through a combination of people, processes and technology. This document has described solutions that can help organizations with their GDPR journey. But you can extend that protection and strengthen security controls even further via strong and risk authentication or workload automation for the processing automation of personal data helping you comply with GDPR as well as similar mandates. Regulations tend to set the minimum standards to be required, but in the application economy, open enterprises must ensure due diligence to protect one of the most important and critical assets: private customer information.

Effective security for cloud-hosted web applications requires full visibility into the environment in which the apps live and the potential exposure to vulnerabilities — and to do so consistently, while proactively monitoring for attacks without causing delays in application development and delivery. Cloud adoption means that a focus on perimeter security is not sufficient and may even be obstructive, because it can impact application performance and availability. Today, when you make decisions about information technology (IT) security priorities, you must often strike a careful balance between business risk, impact, and likelihood of incidents, and the costs of prevention or cleanup. Historically, the most well-understood variable in this equation was the methods that hackers used to disrupt or invade the system.

Web application and DDoS attacks hit enterprises without warning or reason. Most Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks require little skill to launch with attackers can simply rent resources from DDoS-for-hire sites at a low cost.. In comparison, DDoS attacks typically result in: • Operational disruption • Loss of confidential data • Lost user productivity • Reputational harm • Damage to partner and customer relations • Lost revenue Depending on your industry, that could add up to tens of thousands of dollars in damage – and in some cases it could be millions. Only 2% of organizations said their web applications had not been compromised in the past 12 months – 98% said they had.
