Cisco has recently unveiled its new intent-based networking strategy, called "The Network. Intuitive." The goal of intent-based networking is to allow greater levels of automation, security integration, and centralized manageability within a software subscription orientation. Intent-based networking is underpinned by Software-Defined Access (SDA), Cisco's automation engine built upon the company's Digital Network Architecture (DNA), which automates network segmentation, policy enforcement, and troubleshooting. Other core components of the announcement include a refresh of Cisco Catalyst switches, a new licensing model for infrastructure, and an all-in-one management console called DNA Center.

Endpoint devices continue to be one of the favorite targets for cyberattacks. A successfully compromised laptop provides a foothold for a threat to move laterally and infect other endpoints within the organization. To address this critical vulnerability, security leaders must integrate endpoint security into their broader network security architecture. A deep connection between endpoint and network security offers key improvements to holistic enterprise protection. It provides risk-based visibility of all endpoint devices, establishes policy-based access controls, enables real-time threat intelligence sharing, and automates security responses and workflows for effective and efficient protection that conserves time and money.

Public key infrastructure (PKI) is the foundation of today’s enterprise security. But most PKI lacks central visibility, consistent processes, and refresh progress validation. This leads to errors and missed system updates that result in policy violations and costly business interruptions. You can solve these issues with a PKI refresh that delivers automated key and certificate security and management.

Digital certificates have become vital to MDM/EMM, WiFi and VPN access for mobile-device-to-enterprise authentication. But most struggle to identify who has access, audit that access, and terminate access if needed. IT teams need a central certificate security platform that delivers issuance and distribution, visibility, and policy enforcement, as well as the control needed to terminate access.

Most organizations want to leverage the cloud, but also recognize that migrating all their applications at once is not always practical. They are seeking ways to utilize cloud-based services while maintaining certain applications on-premise. For organizations utilizing this hybrid architecture, one of their major challenges is providing users with the flexibility to seamlessly move around the environment while still maintaining appropriate security levels—or more specifically, ensuring consistent control and security policy between on-premise applications and cloud services.

Cloud computing is rapidly changing enterprise IT with applications like Salesforce and Office 365, which are improving productivity, reducing costs, and simplifying management. Now, organizations are discovering that those same advantages can be achieved by migrating security to the cloud. In fact, in its 2016 Magic Quadrant report on Secure Web Gateways, Gartner reported, “Cloud services have experienced a 35% five-year compound annual growth rate, while on-premises appliances have only grown by 6% during the same period.” Organizations understand that protecting users with a consistent and enforceable policy requires much more than simple URL or web filtering. Thousands of companies have already switched their IT security from appliances to experience the benefits of the Zscaler™ Security Cloud. Download this whitepaper today to find out why.

Most large organizations deploy or intend to deploy a broad range of mobile apps to their employees for productivity, collaboration, CRM, ERP, analytics, and industry-specific business processes. Office 365 might be the productivity solution, but the IT team needs a central platform that can provide a consistent security and policy framework across all the mobile apps the organization will deploy both today and tomorrow. This whitepaper describes the MobileIron app security model and how it can be used to secure Office 365 for mobile devices.

How to think about the risk to data from the mobile ecosystem Mobile devices, even those that are corporate owned, are personal. Your CEO uses the same smartphone to send confidential emails, snap family photos, inspect customer records, get directions to meetings, and scrutinize financial reports. Every employee in your organization does the same thing. Your organization's critical data is constantly being accessed by mobile devices, and once it leaves the network you have no visibility into where it goes, and little or no ability to enforce your security policy to protect it. Your organization’s sensitive data has made the mobile ecosystem the new frontier for a wide spectrum of risk that every CISO must now understand. Take a deep dive into all twelve elements of the Mobile Risk Matrix in the interactive table below.

The new generation of mobile devices, applications, and cloud services significantly improve agency efficiencies. Tasks that were once relegated to timeconsuming deskwork, are now performed in the field, and with improved accuracy. Because of this, more and more public safety agencies are adopting these new technologies. One purpose of the FBI’s CJIS Security Policy is to enable agencies to fully leverage mobile devices, but without sacrificing security. Mobile devices introduce a variety of new threat vectors and risks. Careful consideration of these risks is important to maintaining information security. Threats to mobile devices stem mainly from their size, portability, and available wireless interfaces. Examples of mobile device threats include: • Loss or theft of device • Unauthorized access to device • Mobile operating system vulnerabilities • Communication over untrusted networks • Malware or malicious Apps • Jailbreak or rooting activity • Data loss through user behaviors

Security and risk (S&R) pros have the challenging task of using finite resources (including budget, time, and people) to protect their businesses from every possible attack type. On top of this, S&R pros don’t just need to watch out for threats coming from outside their walls, but must keep an eye on internal threats as well. S&R decision-makers face threats from three groups of insiders – compromised accounts (internal accounts that have been compromised by external attacks), careless misuse (internal policy violators and those who accidentally leak or expose data or systems), and malicious insiders (insiders who purposefully take or misuse data or exploit systems), and they must be prepared for each. In February 2017, Mimecast commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate the state of enterprise security readiness for internal email threats.
