Digital information has quickly become the lifeblood of business success, enabling firms to become more operationally efficient and to better serve their customers. As companies seek to harness their data in new ways, the infrastructure that houses that data can falter under the strain. In response, new innovations have emerged to help address the concerns of managing and protecting these increasingly important data capacities. While some vendors focus innovation development on software alone and allow the hardware to remain commodity, Dell Technologies is delivering some impressive hardware innovation with Isilon’s next generation hardware to complement its software’s disruptive capabilities.

Your growing business shouldn't run on aging hardware and software until it fails. Adding memory and upgrading processors will not provide the same benefits to your infrastructure as a consolidation and upgrade can. Upgrading and consolidating your IT infrastructure to the Dell PowerEdge VRTX running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014 can improve performance while adding features such as high availability.

No matter your line of business, technology implemented four years ago is likely near its end of life and may be underperforming as more users and more strenuous workloads stretch your resources thin. Adding memory and upgrading processors won't provide the same benefits to your infrastructure as a consolidation and upgrade can. Read this research report to learn how upgrading to Dell's PowerEdge VRTX with Hyper-V virtualization, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, and Microsoft SQL Server 2014 could reduce costs while delivering better performance than trying to maintain aging hardware and software.

While just about everyone is writing about how IT and the businesses it serves need to be transformed, the actual industry answers to both digital and IT transformation remain unclear at best. Are transformational initiatives all about analytics and big data? Or are they about the move to cloud in all its varieties? Support for mobile? More agile ways of working and developing software? Or are they actually all about crafting teams to promote more proactive dialog between the business and IT? The truth is, of course, digital and IT transformation depend on all of the above and more. They also depend on a resilient infrastructure that’s easily adapted to changing business priorities without requiring long hours spent on maintenance, updates, and addressing problems of service availability. But making all this work clearly and cohesively is far beyond the purview of almost any solution today—whether from a software management perspective or from a hardware infrastructure perspective.

In a market where compute and storage resources can be bought on demand with a credit card, vendors of on-premises hardware are seeking to tip the scales in their favor with ‘cloud-like’ pricing models that eliminate the need to commit capital to new platforms. At Dell EMC World in May, Dell Financial Services (DFS) rolled out Cloud Flex for HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure), part of the company’s push to evangelize the start-small-and-scale-up virtues of HCI technology. Cloud Flex lets customers acquire equipment on an all-opex basis, with no up-front product cost, steady monthly payments that reduce by up to 30% annually, and the ability to turn in equipment any time after 12 months without penalty. It’s part of a series of moves by Dell EMC meant to ease the financial risk of sticking with on-premises infrastructure in a cloud-enabled world

This paper presents the results of a three-year total cost of ownership (TCO) study comparing Dell EMC™ VxRail™ appliances and an equivalent do-it-yourself (DIY) solution of standalone server hardware and software from the VMware vSAN ReadyNode™ (hardware compatibility list) configurations. For both options, we modeled total hardware capital expense, total software capital expense and operational expense for small, medium and large clusters over a three-year period.

A common misconception about hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) is that because data services are software-defined, the hardware doesn’t matter. It’s easy to see why—the software driving HCI solutions such as the Dell EMC XC Series (in this case, Nutanix software) is exceptional. It efficiently manages data and communications across a cluster of nodes and storage tiers, keeping the cluster and virtual machines (VMs) up and running, delivering optimal performance and availability. Software-defined infrastructure is changing the way data services are delivered, making companies more efficient and agile, and reducing costs. Download the study to learn more about the latest trends. Intel Inside®. New Possibilities Outside.

Datacenter improvements have thus far focused on cost reduction and point solutions. Server consolidation, cloud computing, virtualization, and the implementation of flash storage capabilities have all helped reduce server sprawl, along with associated staffing and facilities costs. Converged systems — which combine compute, storage, and networking into a single system — are particularly effective in enabling organizations to reduce operational and staff expenses. These software-defined systems require only limited human intervention. Code imbedded in the software configures hardware and automates many previously manual processes, thereby dramatically reducing instances of human error. Concurrently, these technologies have enabled businesses to make incremental improvements to customer engagement and service delivery processes and strategies.
